Spaniard Cave
Lacada Point, Causeway Headlands, County Antrim
Spaniard Cave is one of the most inaccessible and remote caves that I have photographed during this project. It is hidden beneath the cliffs at Lacada Point. Getting here involves negotiating the crumbling cliffs and scrambling down many rock steps when the tide is low. The name of this cave originates from the sinking of the Spanish Armada galleas, The Girona, less than 100 yards away. It is likely that some of the bodies of the 1300 men drowned were washed up into this cave.
