The old Arcadia Cafe is situated on Portrush East Strand. It was built in the 1920s by local businessman, R.A. Chalmers. Through the 1920s-1950s it functioned as a thriving seaside cafe. In 1953 a ballroom extension was added and the venue attracted many great showbands. The ballroom was later demolished, although today the original building is still standing. The small bay in front of the cafe has been known as the Ladies Bathing Place since the 1800s. In 1978 The Stranglers played in the Arcadia, supported by local band, The Undertones.
