Devenish Island is located on Lower Lough Erne, near Enniskillen. The island is one of the finest Monastic sites in Ireland and was founded by Saint Molaise in the 6th century. The island was raided by Vikings in 837 and again in 1157. The impressive round tower dates from the 12th century and is 30 metres in height. In the 15th century the island flourished again as the site of the Augustinian Priory of St. Mary. Other Keywords: Devenish Island, Trory Jetty, Maguire Chapel, Cross
