This photograph shows the entrance to Clogherny Wedge Tomb which is located in the Sperrins hills above Plumbridge in County Tyrone. These Neolithic wedge tombs are believed to have been built between 2500 and 2000BC. There are 25 examples of these in County Tyrone and 500 across Ireland. The tomb consists of gallery of lined blocks which are covered by the huge capstone. There is also a long sillstone which can be seen in the foreground. Around the tomb is a fine stone circle comprising 11 large stones and several smaller stones. The tomb and its surrounds were excavated in 1937 by Oliver Davies, However, only some burnt human bone and a barbed flint were found.
